Baseball Game Preview: Campbellsville Eagles vs. Breckinridge County Fighting Tigers

The Campbellsville Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the Breckinridge County Fighting Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Campbellsville 4, Breckinridge County 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Campbellsville is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Niceville, who was ranked 16th in their home state at the time (Campbellsville was ranked tenth). Campbellsville fell just short of Niceville by a score of 5-4 on Thursday.

Bryson Turpin made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Meanwhile, Breckinridge County had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Colts. That's two games straight that the Fighting Tigers have won by just one run.

Adam Howell was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-3. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.

Breckinridge County pushed their record up to 8-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Campbellsville, their loss dropped their record down to 14-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Campbellsville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Breckinridge County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Everything went Campbellsville's way against Breckinridge County in their previous matchup back in March, as Campbellsville made off with a 10-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
