Softball Game Preview: Westerly Bulldogs vs. Waterford Lancers

The Westerly Bulldogs will head out on the road to challenge the Waterford Lancers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Westerly sitting on five straight victories and Waterford on 14.

On Tuesday, Westerly got the win against Moses Brown by a conclusive 14-2. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Lyla Auth made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Auth was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addison Poole, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last five games she's played. Ella Keegan was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs.

Westerly always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Waterford hadn't done well against Southington recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Lancers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 win over the Blue Knights.

Waterford's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Westerly, their record now sits at 10-7.
