With a playoff win on the line, Flint Hill rose to the challenge on Monday. They skirted past the Norfolk Academy Bulldogs 10-8. Winning may never get old, but the Huskies sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Flint Hill got a great performance from Jackson Speer as he struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts Speer has posted since back in April.
On the hitting side, Aidan Ryan was excellent, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI. He has become a key player for Flint Hill: the team is 12-2 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 6-9 otherwise. Saad Ali was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI.
Flint Hill's win bumped their record up to 18-11. As for Norfolk Academy, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-8-1.
Coming up, Flint Hill will head out to challenge Miller School of Albemarle at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Huskies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mavericks have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season. Norfolk Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
