Baseball Recap: Friends Select Comes Up Short

Friends Select fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Academy of the New Church on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lions by a score of 7-6.

Conor Humowiecki was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Miles Lesser was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Those doubles were his first of the season.

Friends Select's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Academy of the New Church, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Friends Select didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 22-2 loss against Friends' Central on the 29th. As for Academy of the New Church, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 15-4 defeat against Shipley on the 29th.
