League recap: Spivey overpowering for Lake Weir in past week

6A District 5 league recap: 4/3/13
Lake Weir's
Dakota Spivey was the best pitcher in 6A District 5 this week. He won one game and retired 15 batters.
Vanguard outperformed the rest of the league this week, as its three total wins led the league. The Knights beat
Dunnellon 6-1,
Carrollwood Day 14-4 and
Land O'Lakes 2-1.
Vanguard boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks.
Five batters hit over .400 this week. They were led by Stephen Johnson, who hit .857 this week (6-for-7).
Colby Unangst and
Jacob Grant hit home runs this week.
Spivey struck out 13 in the Hurricanes' 8-1 win over
St. Francis Catholic on March 30. Over his six innings pitched he allowed one run on five hits.
