Basketball Recap: Mater Bay Academy Makes It Seven in a Row at Home

Mater Bay Academy lost to Cushman back in January of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Wednesday. The Mater Bay Academy Rays enjoyed a cozy 49-34 victory over the Cushman Cougars. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rays.

Mater Bay Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jose Echane, who went 6 of 9 en route to 12 points along with eight boards and five blocks. Echane is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 12 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Shandon Bullard, who posted nine points in addition to five boards and five steals.

Despite the loss, Cushman saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Fremgen Jackson scored 12 points.

Mater Bay Academy's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-3. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.0 points per game. As for Cushman, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.

Mater Bay Academy is taking a road trip to challenge Sunset at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mater Bay Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.8 points per game this season. Cushman does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
