Baseball Recap: Fillmore Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Camarillo, Fillmore was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They skirted past the Malibu Sharks 7-5. The game was the first time the Flashes have beaten the Sharks on their field since March 2, 2022.

Santiago Avila made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Fillmore's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-13 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Miguel Rincon, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Fillmore: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-13 otherwise. Adrian Magana was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.

Fillmore's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-13. As for Malibu, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-14.

Fillmore will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Sharks: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
