Softball Game Preview: Decatur Golden Gators vs. Peninsula Seahawks

The Decatur Golden Gators will square off against the Peninsula Seahawks at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Decatur has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Decatur came up short against Auburn Mountainview last Friday, falling 15-5.

Sam Hackney was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Kahea Sharpe was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Peninsula suffered their biggest loss since April 1st on Thursday. They lost 11-1 to Enumclaw. The defeat continues a trend for the Seahawks in their meetings with the Hornets: they've now lost five in a row.

Decatur has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season. As for Peninsula, their loss dropped their record down to 14-9.

Decatur couldn't quite finish off Peninsula in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 and fell 8-6. Can the Golden Gators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
