Recap: Yreka Miners vs. University Prep Panthers
The Yreka Miners''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 47-14 to University Prep, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Yreka has struggled against University Prep recently, as their match on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Yreka's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Layden Luce , who rushed for 59 yards and a touchdown.
Leading University Prep to victory were Bailey Wurzer and Sawyer Hokanson. Wurzer picked up 84 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Hokanson threw for 303 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.6 yards per attempt. Hokanson is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last five games he's played. DJ Maples got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Yreka's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for University Prep, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.
Yreka will be playing in front of their home fans against West Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. West Valley is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for University Prep, they will head out on the road to face off against Central Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Central Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up four on Friday.
