Basketball Game Preview: Walters Blue Devils vs. Velma-Alma Comets

The Walters Blue Devils will venture away from home to take on the Velma-Alma Comets at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Walters has struggled recently with six defeats in a row, while Velma-Alma will arrive with five straight wins.

Walters came up short against Central on Friday, falling 66-42. While losing is never fun, the Blue Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 433rd, while the Bronchos are ranked 139th).

Meanwhile, everything went Velma-Alma's way against Wilson on Friday as Velma-Alma made off with a 64-39 victory. The Comets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 games by 22 points or more this season.

Velma-Alma pushed their record up to 23-2 with the win, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 34.4 points. As for Walters, their loss dropped their record down to 4-16.

Walters came up short against Velma-Alma in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 64-51. Can Walters avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
