Basketball Recap: Maddi Baker's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mercer County over Garrard County

Mercer County was the 88-64 winner over Garrard County when they last played one another back in January of 2020, but their luck changed this time around. The Mercer County Titans fell 80-68 to the Garrard County Golden Lions on Saturday. The Titans were down 61-41 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Mercer County lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Maddi Baker, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Ransdell, who posted ten points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Mercer County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Mercer County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Garrard County, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.

Mercer County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 78-54 victory against Christian Academy-Louisville on the 20th. As for Garrard County, they will venture away from home to square off against Danville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Garrard County is facing Danville at the right time seeing as Danville is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
