Softball Recap: Willcox Victorious

On Friday Willcox's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Walden Grove Red Wolves. This was payback for the Cowboys, who suffered an 18-3 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Hattie Macumber spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on nine hits and racked up 15 Ks. Those 15 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Willcox's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Lilly Williams, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Willcox's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Walden Grove, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Willcox didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 9-0 loss against Tucson High Magnet School on the 27th. As for Walden Grove, they have also already played their next matchup, a 10-0 win against Young Women's STEAM Research & Preparatory Academy on the 27th.
