Baseball Recap: Ponte Vedra Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Ponte Vedra, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Christ's Church Academy Eagles with a sharp 13-3 win on Thursday. The Sharks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.

Hunter Alba and Max Mracek dominated on the mound. Alba pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits, while Mracek pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave Alba a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, Cole Rambler was a standout: he scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Caleb Stanton also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

Ponte Vedra always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Ponte Vedra has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Christ's Church Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-9.

Looking ahead, Ponte Vedra will look to defend their home field on Friday against Nease at 6:30 p.m. The Sharks are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Christ's Church Academy, they will challenge Parsons Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
