Softball Recap: Geneva Eagles vs. Ursuline Fighting Irish
Geneva lost against Ursuline back in March of 2021, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Geneva Eagles took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ursuline Fighting Irish. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Geneva in their matchups with Ursuline: they've now lost three in a row.
Annabelle Bragg was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off ten hits. Bragg has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive pitching appearances. Bragg was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, Savanna Burton was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Claire Cafaro, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Geneva's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Ursuline, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-6.
Geneva didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 13-3 victory vs. Conneaut on the 22nd. As for Ursuline, they will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Gilmour Academy at 5:00 p.m.
