Football Recap: Strafford Takes a Loss

Friday just wasn't the day for Strafford's offense. They were outmatched by the Monett Cubs and fell 72-0. The Indians were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cubs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Leading Monett to victory were Antoine Smith and Dylan Washick. Smith gained 153 total yards and four touchdowns, while Washick threw for 307 yards and four TDs while picking up 10.6 yards per attempt. The dominant performance also gave Washick a new career-high in passer rating (134.6). Collin Umfleet was in the mix too, providing Monett with two scores.

Strafford's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Monett, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Coming up, Strafford will be playing at home against Springfield Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Indians' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Monett, they are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will take on Aurora at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
