Basketball Recap: Johntta Thomas' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cesar E. Chavez over Westside

Cesar E. Chavez lost against Westside back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Cesar E. Chavez Lobos fell 53-43 to the Westside Wolves. While losing is never fun, the Lobos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 925th, while the Wolves are ranked 179th).

Several Lobos players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Johntta Thomas, who posted 15 points and eight boards. Grant Johnson was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 11 boards.

Even though they lost, Cesar E. Chavez smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Cesar E. Chavez's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Westside, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-2.

Cesar E. Chavez will venture away from home to face off against Wisdom at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Cesar E. Chavez is facing Wisdom at the right time seeing as Wisdom is stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Westside, they and Heights will meet in a canine-themed contest at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
