Baseball Recap: Green Comes Up Short

After flying high against Glenwood on Monday, Green came back down to earth. The Bobcats fell just short of the Portsmouth Trojans by a score of 4-3 on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Bobcats in their meetings with the Trojans: they've now lost seven in a row.

Jonathan Knapp spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Green saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blake Smith, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Smith is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Green's defeat dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Portsmouth, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4-1 record this season.

Portsmouth will face off against Ironton at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Green will be paying especially close attention to the Trojans' game: after the Trojans face off against Fairland, they'll take on Green again at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
