Baseball Recap: West Prairie Has No Trouble Against Bushnell-Prairie City

With a playoff win on the line, West Prairie rose to the challenge on Monday. They blew past the Bushnell-Prairie City Spartans 13-5. The Cyclones haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Braden Coplan made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out 11 batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI. He has become a key player for West Prairie: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-13 otherwise.

In other batting news, Brody Cordell was a standout: he went 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Jace Brown was another key player, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.

West Prairie kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

West Prairie's win bumped their record up to 6-14. As for Bushnell-Prairie City, they are on a 34-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-33.

West Prairie wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, an 11-1 loss against Monmouth United on the 21st. Bushnell-Prairie City does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
