Baseball Recap: Sayre Takes Down Ranked Whitley County

Sayre faced Whitley County in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Spartans came out on top in a nail-biter against the Colonels, sneaking past 3-1. This was payback for the Spartans, who suffered a 7-5 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Camden Stout looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Tripp Winton was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Sayre is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Whitley County, with the loss, they broke their 20-game winning streak and moved their record to 32-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sayre will challenge Ballard at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Whitley County, they will square off against Pulaski County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Colonels' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Maroons have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
