Softball Game Preview: Cypress Creek Cougars vs. Klein Oak Panthers

A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cougars challenge the Panthers at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Cypress Creek's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Klein Oak's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Cypress Creek took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Klein 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since March 2, 2024.

Meanwhile, Klein Oak never let their opponents score on Thursday. They blew past Cy-Fair 10-0. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now won four in a row.

Klein Oak got a great performance from Riannah Boulanger as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Boulanger has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Morgan Sanchez and Carly Zahn did most of the damage at the plate: Sanchez went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI, while Zahn scored a run while going 3-for-4. What's more, Zahn posted three hits, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Maddie Hall also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Klein Oak hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in seven consecutive games.

Cypress Creek's record now sits at 4-7. As for Klein Oak, their record now sits at 7-3.

Cypress Creek might still be hurting after the 13-3 defeat they got from Klein Oak when the teams last played back in March of 2022. Can Cypress Creek avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
