Softball Recap: Carbon Dinos vs. Union Cougars
Carbon had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 7-17 to make it eight. They fell just short of the Union Cougars by a score of 3-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-1 last Thursday.
Kadence Vea spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Brailee Peterson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one RBI.
As for Union, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games.
On Union's side, they also let their pitcher toss all eight innings and she was also dialed-in: Haylee Moynier gave up just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up 14 Ks. Moynier has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Drew Kesler was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Teddy Oleen, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Coming up, Carbon will face off against Juab at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Union, they will square off against Emery at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
