Softball Game Preview: Eastern Hancock Royals vs. North Decatur Chargers

Eastern Hancock is a perfect 6-0 against North Decatur since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Royals will venture away from home to square off against the Chargers at 5:30 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Eastern Hancock managed to slip by Lapel the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Royals lost 10-0 to the Bulldogs on Friday. Considering the last time the Royals couldn't score was back in April, the team can't take the result too hard.

Eastern Hancock saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addisyn Trackwell, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Trackwell is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

North Decatur might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 13-1 to Rising Sun, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The defeat continues a trend for the Chargers in their meetings with the Shiners: they've now lost three in a row.

North Decatur's loss dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Eastern Hancock, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-8.

Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Eastern Hancock has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .444. However, it's not like North Decatur struggles in that department as they've averaged .460. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Everything went Eastern Hancock's way against North Decatur when the teams last played back in May of 2023, as Eastern Hancock made off with a 17-1 win. Will the Royals repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
