Baseball Recap: Irvington Comes Up Short

Irvington extended their losing streak to eight on Friday, dropping their season record down to 7-17 in the process. They lost 7-0 to the Newark Memorial Cougars. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for Newark Memorial, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 18-5. Considering they have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

For Newark Memorial's part, the team relied heavily on Malosi Gaoteote, who fired off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-2. Those six RBI gave Gaoteote a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brian Covarrubias Jr, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and three runs.

As of now, neither Irvington nor Newark Memorial have any future games scheduled.
