Volleyball Game Preview: Canistota Hawks vs. Irene/Wakonda Eagles

The Canistota Hawks are taking a road trip to take on the Irene/Wakonda Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with nine losses in a row, Canistota turned things around against Menno last Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-1 win over the Wolves.

The final score came out to 25-13, 25-23, 18-25, 25-12.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Irene/Wakonda, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They blew past Marty Indian 3-0 on Thursday.

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Irene/Wakonda took every set by at least ten points. The match finished with set scores of 25-12, 25-15, 25-12.

Irene/Wakonda found their leader in sophomore Ava George, who had five aces. Those five aces set a new season-high mark for George.

Irene/Wakonda was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 23 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Canistota's victory bumped their record up to 6-17. As for Irene/Wakonda, their win bumped their record up to 7-14.

Canistota took their victory against Irene/Wakonda in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
