Softball Recap: Thursday's Victory Is Valencia's Tenth in Last 11 Outings

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Valencia had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Rancho Verde Mustangs 4-3.

Isabella Goulet spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits.

On the hitting side, Sophia Avina and Cadence Ledbetter did most of the damage at the plate: Avina went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double, while Ledbetter got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run.

Valencia is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Rancho Verde, their defeat ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 17-5.

Looking ahead, Valencia will welcome Cerritos at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Tigers have won seven straight at home, while the Dons won five straight on the road), something that'll have to change. Rancho Verde does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
