Softball Recap: Cornell Wins Going Away Against New Brighton

Cornell made up a huge gap compared to their last game against New Brighton, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Cornell Raiders blew past the New Brighton Lions 24-17 on Wednesday. For the Raiders, this counts as revenge for the 10-2 win the Lions walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2016.

Gianna Gracyk and Katie Wegley did most of the damage at the plate: Gracyk went 4-for-5 with four runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Wegley scored five runs while going 5-for-6. The dominant performance gave Wegley a new career-high in hits. Kylie Michlovic was another key player, going 2-for-6 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Cornell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .596. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Brighton only posted an OBP of .415.

Cornell's record is now 2-0.

Coming up, Cornell is taking a road trip to challenge Aliquippa at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for New Brighton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Northgate at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
