Softball Recap: Shepherd Beats Harrison for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Shepherd came tearing into Wednesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Harrison Hornets a 19-0 shutout. Considering the Bluejays have won 11 matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Avery Veale was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jordan Schafer was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lily Drozd, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Shepherd was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .588. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in five consecutive games.

Shepherd's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Harrison, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.

Looking ahead, Shepherd will face off against Bullock Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Harrison, they will square off against Farwell at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
