Volleyball Recap: Maplewood Tigers vs. Corry Beavers
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Maplewood and Corry had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Tigers fell just short of the Beavers by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. Tigers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Beavers since Tuesday.
Maplewood wouldn't go down easily and took Corry into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking four-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 18-25, 25-14, 25-19, 20-25, 15-11.
Corry had a senior duo take command as Sydney Mineo had 33 digs and two assists and Brynley Watrous had 20 digs and four aces. Those 20 digs set a new season-high mark for Watrous. Grace Allen also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.
Maplewood now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Corry, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 11-0-2.
Maplewood and Corry will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Tigers are set to face off against their familiar foe Eisenhower at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Corry will square off against rival Iroquois at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
