Softball Recap: Spring Woods Makes It Six in a Row at Home

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Waltrip, Spring Woods was happy to have turned things around on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Sharpstown Apollos a 17-0 shutout. The high-scoring effort was just what the Tigers needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Nuruin Batres made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Batres was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Addie Ceniceros was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Karen Mancia, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Spring Woods pushed their record up to 7-13 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 9.83 hits in those games compared to only 2.71 in the others. As for Sharpstown, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spring Woods will host Galena Park at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sharpstown, they will welcome Waltrip at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Waltrip will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something Sharpstown surely won't give up without a fight.
