Basketball Recap: Bowie Comes Up Short

If Bowie was riding high fresh off their 74-31 takedown of High Point last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bowie Bulldogs lost to the Flowers Jaguars on the road by a 67-53 margin on Thursday. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Jaguars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Flowers' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brandon Brooks, who went 12 of 16 en route to 24 points in addition to seven rebounds and six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Israel Johnson, who went 8 for 16 on his way to 19 points and five steals.

Bowie has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-3 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for Flowers, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bowie will venture away from home to challenge Northwestern at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Bowie is facing Northwestern at the right time seeing as Northwestern is stuck on a four-game losing streak. Flowers has already played their next matchup (against Douglass), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
