Baseball Game Recap: Springfield Wildcats vs. Fairmont Firebirds

Springfield had lost four straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 6-12-1 to make it five. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 9-3 to the Fairmont Firebirds, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Firebirds this season, with their most recent defeat being a 9-3 loss on Monday.

As for Fairmont, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.

For Fairmont's part, Tyler Mastro was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Mastro was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Fairmont is undefeated when Mastro posts two or more runs, but 7-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, Schyler Zent was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Miles Osterfeld was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.
