Baseball Game Preview: Lakewood Tigers vs. Columbine Rebels

Lakewood and Columbine are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Tigers will challenge the Rebels at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Lakewood was handed a six-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Mountain Range 8-6.

Lakewood got a massive performance out of Sean Lann, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Lann a new career-high. CJ Mahoney was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

Meanwhile, Columbine earned a 4-1 victory over Conifer on Tuesday.

Matthew Kossik was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Columbine is undefeated when Kossik posts two or more runs, but 1-7 otherwise.

Lakewood is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Columbine, their record is now 4-7.

Lakewood might still be hurting after the 17-0 loss they got from Columbine in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
