Recap: River City Science Academy Rockets vs. Stanton Blue Devils
The River City Science Academy Rockets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 66-29 loss at the hands of Stanton. While losing is never fun, River City Science Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 724th, while Stanton is ranked 327th).
Raza Cottey continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Stanton, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds. Cottey continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Surafel Cummings, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
River City Science Academy's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.7 points per game. As for Stanton, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
River City Science Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on KIPP Bold City at 7:30 p.m. on January 10, 2024. Stanton and Yulee will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
