Football Recap: Colt Lozano and Jorge Luna Secure Win for United

United gave up the first points on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 40-30 victory over the Weslaco Panthers. The Longhorns' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

A big part of United's win came down to the chemistry between Jorge Luna and his top target Colt Lozano. Luna threw for 310 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.1 yards per attempt while Lozano picked up 146 receiving yards and four TDs. Those four receiving touchdowns gave Lozano a new career-high. A healthy portion of Luna's aerial production (100 yards to be exact) also went to Jesse Garcia-Perez.

Loss or not, Weslaco got some senior leadership from Chris Luna and Joseph Leal. Chris threw for 206 yards and four touchdowns on only 17 passes, while Leal picked up 121 receiving yards and four scores. Leal's longest reception was for an impressive 56 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total.

The victory made it two in a row for United and bumps their season record up to 3-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.5 points over those games. As for Weslaco, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. United will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against United South at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. As for Weslaco, they will head out to square off against San Benito at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
