Basketball Recap: East Central Hornets vs. New Braunfels Unicorns
The East Central Hornets won the last time they faced the New Braunfels Unicorns, and things went their way on Friday too. East Central strolled past the Unicorns with points to spare, taking the game 66-48. Given East Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while the Unicorns are ranked 470th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Emery Espinoza, who scored 24 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Leah Mitchell was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds and eight assists.
East Central has been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 games, which provided a nice bump to their 24-11 record this season. As for New Braunfels, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 13-21.
East Central will take on the Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Steele is coming into the contest hot, having won their last eight games. As for New Braunfels, they will head out on the road to face off against the Buffaloes at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Clemens is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
