Softball Recap: Melbourne Comes Up Short

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Melbourne couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell just short of the Mayflower Eagles by a score of 2-0 on Friday. Considering the last time the Bearkatz couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

Kallie Thornton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances.

Melbourne's loss dropped their record down to 20-7. As for Mayflower, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.

As of now, neither Melbourne nor Mayflower have any future games scheduled.
