Softball Recap: Clovis Takes a Loss

Clovis had lost 13 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 3-21 to make it 14. They came up short against the Clovis North Broncos, falling 8-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Broncos this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-3 back in April.

As for Clovis North, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games.

For Clovis North's part, the team relied heavily on Zoey Thomas, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Brynn Gentry, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clovis will host Clovis East at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Timberwolves' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Clovis North, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Central East at 3:30 p.m. The Broncos' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bengals have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
