Softball Recap: Michigan City Wolves vs. Valparaiso Vikings

Michigan City extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-15 in the process. They lost 11-0 to the Valparaiso Vikings. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-1 back in April.

As for Valparaiso, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-12. Considering they have won seven games by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Valparaiso's part, Kylie McMillan made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. McMillan has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Brooklyn Hudson looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Elizabeth Kosek and Delilah Kincaid did most of the damage at the plate: Kosek went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles, while Kincaid went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles Kosek has posted since back in April of 2024. Samantha Seng also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.

Coming up, Michigan City will challenge Merrillville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Valparaiso, they will square off against Munster at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something the Vikings surely won't give up without a fight.
