Softball Recap: Highland Tech Gets the Win

Highland Tech hadn't done well against Cherryville recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Rams came out on top against the Ironmen by a score of 6-3. This was payback for the Rams, who suffered a 14-6 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Makaylee Gantt was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 19 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off nine hits. Those 19 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Prudence Hammond was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Jaelyn Motley was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Highland Tech has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Cherryville wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 12-4 win against North Gaston on the 5th. Hopefully Highland Tech paid attention to the Ironmen's matchup: the next time they hit the field , they'll take on the Ironmen at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
