Baseball Recap: Safford Takes a Loss

The home team had won the previous six meetings between Safford and Thatcher, and Thatcher kept the tradition alive. The Bulldogs lost 8-2 to the Eagles on Friday. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Dylan Broderick was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in February.

On the hitting side, Safford saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cole Goodman, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Another was Carlos Arbizo, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.

Safford's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-10. As for Thatcher, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Safford will take on Palo Verde at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Titans will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for Thatcher, they will square off against Payson at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
