Preview: Laguna Beach Breakers vs. Huntington Beach Oilers
Laguna Beach is 9-1 against Huntington Beach since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Laguna Beach Breakers will head out on the road to take on the Huntington Beach Oilers at 7:00 p.m. Laguna Beach is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
Last Friday, Laguna Beach came up short against Corona del Mar and fell 54-46. Laguna Beach has struggled against Corona del Mar recently, as their game on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Huntington Beach's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 78-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of Marina. While losing is never fun, Huntington Beach can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 247th, while Marina is ranked 90th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Logan Barker, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Oliver Nakra, who scored 17 points.
Laguna Beach's loss dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Huntington Beach, their loss dropped their record down to 14-8.
Laguna Beach came out on top in a nail-biter against Huntington Beach in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, sneaking past 46-44. Will Laguna Beach repeat their success, or does Huntington Beach have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
