Basketball Game Preview: Sargent Farmers vs. Moffat Cowboys

The Sargent Farmers will be taking part in a tournament against the Moffat Cowboys at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Sargent saw some tournament action on Tuesday. They managed a 37-32 victory over South Park. The win continues a trend for the Farmers in their matchups with the Burros: they've now won four in a row.

Sargent had a senior duo take command as Kade Temple posted nine points in addition to five boards and three steals and Lucas Garcia put up 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Garcia a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (67%). Corbin Castillo was another key player, putting up seven points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Moffat was able to grind out a solid victory over Lake City Community on Tuesday, taking the game 56-43. The Cowboys pushed the score to 47-27 by the end of the third, a deficit the 14ers cut but never quite recovered from.

Moffat found their leader in sophomore Preston Heater, who went 8-for-19 en route to 21 points in addition to five boards and five steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Heater has scored at least a third of Moffat's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Shellabarger, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 11 rebounds.

Moffat was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.3 assists per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.6.

Moffat is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.6 points over those games. Sargent's win bumped their record up to 7-13.
