Basketball Game Preview: Gayville-Volin Raiders vs. Freeman Flyers

The Gayville-Volin Raiders will venture away from home to square off against the Freeman Flyers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Freeman will be up against a hot Gayville-Volin squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Gayville-Volin put the hurt on Flandreau Indian with a sharp 64-38 win on Thursday. The Raiders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 26 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Freeman strolled past Ethan with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 56-41.

Freeman found their leader in freshman David Walter, who went 9-for-17 on his way to 21 points and seven boards. Walter's evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Tate Sorensen, who went 5-for-7 to rack up 12 points.

Freeman was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Freeman's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points over those games. As for Gayville-Volin, their win bumped their record up to 11-5.

Gayville-Volin came up short against Freeman in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 72-63. Can Gayville-Volin avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
