Basketball Recap: Johnson City Comes Up Short

After flying high against Somerset Academy Collegiate on Friday, Johnson City came back down to earth. The Eagles lost to the Karnes City Badgers at home by a 52-34 margin on Saturday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Badgers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 46-40 on Thursday.

When it comes to explaining why Johnson City lost, don't look at Collin Corpus. Despite the final result, he shot 64% from the field on his way to 20 points. Corpus has become a key player for the Eagles: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least 20 points, but 3-6 otherwise.

Karnes City had a senior duo take command as Savion Nixon-Thompson went 9-for-18 en route to 24 points in addition to six boards and four steals and Jayden Elizondo shot 55% from the field to rack up 16 points and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nixon-Thompson has scored all season. Caleb Ingle also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Johnson City now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Karnes City, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-4.

Johnson City will take on Granger in a holiday battle at 12:15 p.m. on the 22nd. As for Karnes City, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-42 victory against George West on the 16th.
