Preview: Porter Ridge Pirates vs. Sun Valley Spartans

Porter Ridge has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Sun Valley Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Porter Ridge's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matchups.

Even though Cuthbertson scored an imposing 55 points on Tuesday, Porter Ridge still came out on top. Porter Ridge walked away with a 65-55 win over Cuthbertson. Given Porter Ridge's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 36th, while Cuthbertson is ranked 228th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Porter Ridge found their leader in underclassman Ashanti Taylor, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 11 rebounds. Taylor is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. Anna Scaldara was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds.

Meanwhile, Sun Valley was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 56-52 to Marvin Ridge.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Chloe Grant, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Tyra Robinson, who scored 16 points.

Porter Ridge is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. As for Sun Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 12-11.

Porter Ridge beat Sun Valley 56-43 in their previous meeting back in January. Will Porter Ridge repeat their success, or does Sun Valley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
