Volleyball Recap: Torrey Pines' Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

It was a good run, but Torrey Pines unfortunately witnessed the end of their 13-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Carlsbad Lancers. The Falcons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lancers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-12, 18-25, 25-18, 25-17.

Torrey Pines' offense was headlined by Ben Soudak and Declan Flanagan, who picked up ten kills apiece. They got some help from Zach Lau and his 18 assists.

Torrey Pines' defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 17-3. As for Carlsbad, their victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 28-2.

Coming up, Torrey Pines will square off against Edison at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Carlsbad will be paying especially close attention to the Falcons' matchup: after the Falcons face off against Redondo Union, they'll take on Carlsbad again at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
