New Hanover came up short against Topsail on Thursday, falling 3-0.
The final score came out to 25-12, 25-6, 25-19.
Meanwhile, Laney earned a 3-1 victory over North Brunswick on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Buccaneers.
Laney had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 17-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-19.
New Hanover better keep an eye on Abigail (Abbey) Hendren. She was instrumental in Laney's win, getting seven digs and three aces. That's the most aces Hendren has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Kara Williams, who had 11 digs.
Laney was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Brunswick only served three.
New Hanover's defeat dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Laney, their record now sits at 8-11.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Monday's match: New Hanover has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 8.6 aces per game. However, it's not like Laney struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
New Hanover couldn't quite get it done against Laney in their previous meeting on Tuesday as they fell 3-1. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
