Softball Recap: Delavan's Win Ends Four-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Delavan barely beat Midwest Central/Illini Central the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Panthers blew past the Raiders 8-2 on Wednesday. The Panthers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Raiders, too.

Lainey Klokkenga made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addi Fisher, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jayley Fisher, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Delavan's win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-7. As for Midwest Central/Illini Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Delavan will venture away from home to face off against Peoria Heights at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers are facing the Patriots at the right time seeing as the Patriots are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Midwest Central/Illini Central, they will take on Hartsburg-Emden at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Stags have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.33 runs per game on average), something the Raiders will no doubt try to take advantage of.
