Baseball Recap: Palmyra Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Palmyra made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Clark County, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Panthers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Indians a 15-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by ten runs or more this season.

Bryant Horstmeier made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Palmyra is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Horstmeier was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

In other batting news, Raeson Miller was incredible, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Palmyra's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Rylan Compton, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Palmyra always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Palmyra's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-6. As for Clark County, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-9.

Looking ahead, Palmyra will challenge Monroe City at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Clark County, they will face off against Hamilton/Warsaw at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
