Baseball Recap: Cheney Comes Up Short

Cheney suffered their closest defeat since April 9, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Mt. Spokane Wildcats by a score of 6-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-2 on Friday.

Cheney saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marcus Belarde, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Another was Brayden Martin, who earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

Cheney has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Mt. Spokane, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Cheney is set to challenge their familiar foe Ridgeline at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Mt. Spokane will square off against rival Ferris at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
